In this thirteenth episode of the Behold the Bride series on Radio Cape Pulpit, host Sylvia Colville explores the lamp of the Lord from Proverbs 20:27. Continuing the Created in the Image of God programme, she begins with a moment of contemplation and prayer, inviting listeners to open the door of their hearts wide to Jesus and allow Him to fill every empty space. She shares a personal story about a weekend in the bush where, away from the light pollution of the city, she and her companions switched off all the lights and lay on the grass staring up at hundreds of thousands of stars. That holy moment reminded her that the same God who knows every star by name has sent us the one true light, Jesus, the living Word. Sylvia explains that just as light pollution dims our ability to see the stars, the pollution of the world can diminish our ability to recognise the light found in Jesus and the Word. She refers to Romans 12:2, which calls believers not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of their minds. She teaches that our renewed minds re-educate our conscience, and that the spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all our innermost parts. Our conscience is our soul's warning system, enabling us to contemplate our motives and actions and make moral evaluations against God's will. She emphasises the importance of protecting our conscience by protecting our mind, warning that ignoring or rejecting your conscience can harden your heart one rejection at a time, eventually searing it and leading to an unrepentant heart. She shares her own experience of growing light within her conscience, making her aware of things she shouldn't watch on TV, and how she became obedient to the nudge of the Holy Spirit, choosing to watch nature shows, documentaries, family shows, kids' movies, Christian history movies, and Bible archaeology. Philippians 4:8 became the focus and light on her pathway—meditating on whatever is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. Most importantly, she spends time consuming the Word of God, which is Jesus on a page, God-breathed, with the power to transform us through revelation. She closes with John 8:12, where Jesus says, "I am the light of the world," and Psalm 119:105, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path," reminding listeners that revelation reveals where we are currently standing and where our Father wants us to go.
